Today was a full day Bergerac walking tour, which included the Farmers Market, and also a walking tour of Chateau Monbazillac.
Statues of Cyrano de Bergerac are found everywhere in this village. As we were told the story of Cyrano, we all immediately thought of Steve Martin. If you haven't see the movie, I recommend you go to red box and rent it for a dollar.
The city was quaint and beautiful. Our tour took us all around and we ended at the farmers market. The produce was very appetizing. The flowers and changing leaf colors, reminded us it was fall. Sharing a baguette of fresh bread and Caneles were great appetizers before lunch.
We decided crepes would be perfect for lunch. We found a small café specializing in crepes. My mushroom, cheese and egg crepe was wonderful! So light...but very large and filling. The presentation was unexpected, but tasty.
After Bergerac, we headed to Chateau Monbazillac. The road is part of the route that the Tour de France will be following. A portion of the road was lined with bicycles, showing the way. The bus was moving, so the picture is not great. However, I thought it was great advertising.
We were able to tour this Chateau and it was interesting to explore the rooms and cellar. The stables were not open for touring, but were prominent next to the Chateau.
As we were getting on the bus to return to the ship, the mistletoe in the trees was pointed out to me. I noticed the balls of foliage in the trees, but didn't know what they were. I'm in awe of those who knew what they were. To those of you, like me, who didn't know, now we know.
