My plan was to blog every day, as I embarked on this adventure. The many wonderful experiences (which started early) and great friends that I met (they kept me up late) filled the hours, so now that I am at sea for a couple of days, I will strive to catch up.

When I told friends and family that I would be traveling for 5 weeks, the number one question was, "How will you pack for that?". I have to say that it was a question I also asked myself. I had never traveled for more than 3 weeks at a time in the past. And the difference in weather I could potentially experience late October in Europe and the southern Caribbean, brought a certain challenge. Fortunately for me, my wardrobe is black...and black, so color coordinating was easy. Space bags kept my Caribbean wardrobe separate from clothes for France, so I only had to unpack necessary clothes for the river cruise week. Accessories and 10 pairs of shoes (I wanted to take 12, but eliminated 2 due to weight and space and fortunately most were sandals) filled my luggage and I was off.

My AAdvantage miles allowed me to travel first class to Paris. First class is a great way to spend the 9+ hours between DFW and Paris. Having my own space and a bed that folded flat, was very comfortable. The Sheraton at the airport provided a nice lounge to occupy while passing the 6 hours at CDG before boarding the TGV (high speed train) for Bordeaux.

This was my first time traveling on a train in Europe. It was a great way to see the countryside and relax. The train was quiet and comfortable. It took me 4 1/2 hours to travel from Paris to Bordeaux. I was told that in the next year, they are adding another train and it will only take 2 hours.

I was happy to see the ship after my travels. Uniworld River Royale was going to be home for the next 7 days. I was greeted and escorted to my room. My room was "cozy" but perfect for the small amount of time I spent in it.
